Our work in travel publishing includes:

  • Partnerships with state and city DMOs to produce travel guides in print and digital formats.
  • Initiatives to increase rural tourism in Tennessee and other states.
  • Travel content and photography in our annual relocation guides for chambers of commerce.

Our state travel projects have twice received the U.S. Travel Association's Mercury Award for Best Print Visitor Guide.

Alex Haley, author of “Roots,” was one of the founders of our company. The phrase “Find the good – and praise it” was printed at the bottom of his pale yellow personal stationery. It predated his connection to Journal Communications, the small startup in which he became an investor in 1988 along with his photographer friend and fellow Pulitzer Prize-winner Robin Hood. But his words perfectly fit our growing business of telling stories about places and people with distinctive photography and compelling editorial content and was soon adopted as a company mission statement.

Music to our ears! We have been awarded a five year contract by the Tennessee Department of Tourist Development to publish the 550,000 circulation Official Tennessee Vacation Guide and find new ways to inspire travel to where The Sound Track of America lives.  In a news release the department said:

"TDTD is pleased to announce a new partnership with Journal Communications as the publisher of the Official Tennessee Vacation Guide , including the media enhanced eGuide. As publisher,  Journal will manage all advertising sales, including the printed Vacation Guide, tnvacation.com digital ads, custom content and Welcome Center light boxes.

Journal is publisher of Tennessee Home & Farm, one of the state's most popular publications, and has won numerous awards for print and digital publishing programs."
