Journal Communications Inc. is looking for a full-time Editor for Livability.com. You will work collaboratively with the Livability team, focused on telling the world about the often under-appreciated assets of small and medium-sized cities throughout the U.S. You’ll write a lot of new content and direct the contributions of many freelance writers and be the main caretaker of a rich archive of existing content. You’ll be driven to establish its role and credibility in the “places space.”

It won’t hurt if you enjoy music, abundant outdoor activities, a great dining and entertainment scene, four reasonably distinct seasons and an overall friendly and hospitable vibe. After all, we’re a short hop from downtown Music City, Nashville, TN.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Manage all content from ideation, to production, to promotion
  • Create and manage editorial calendar of new content

  • Author up to 5 original articles a week

  • Oversee, lead and edit headlines, designed for high traffic on social media

  • Assign and edit content to maintain tone and brand consistency regularly, including editing/SEO optimization of all articles before publishing

  • Contribute to the evolution of the Livability voice and tone

  • Manage Livability.com’s social accounts and posting

  • Regularly assess and prioritize the enhancement, editing and potential reformatting of existing content

  • Analyze data (US Census, Bureau of Labor and Statistics) and incorporate analysis into content strategy.

  • Measure and track the types of content consumed and using those insights to drive future content planning

  • Forge and maintain content partnerships, acting as a liaison with the partners and data specialists we consult with to create our Livability Top 100 Best Places to Live and other data-driven lists

  • Serve as the site spokesperson for media inquiries and special events


Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of solid digital experience in journalism or marketing/communications
  • Experience launching content strategy, content creation and content promotion with a new or existing website

  • Excellent writing, editing, storytelling, and brainstorming skills

  • Exemplary editing and proofreading skills

  • Prior experience working with website brands and content preferred

  • Stellar research skills and ability to familiarize yourself with new topics and industries quickly

  • Excellent project management skills and highly organized

  • Experience hiring and managing freelance journalists; assigning news and feature articles for a monthly, weekly, or daily publication; fact checking and editing news copy; editing for publication style
